A
concept that stood out to me in chapter two is Fideism.
Fideism
is the belief that the heavenly is exposed through faith and doesn’t need
reason. Fideism is accepted by most Islamic fundamentalist and also Christians.
Those who believe in Fideism believe that “Human beings are finite and God is
infinite.” In Fideism you must have faith and also rationalism. Faith is trust
and belief in the compliance of religious deity. Rationalism is the belief that
religion should have reason and evidence. The problem with fideism is that persuading
someone that it is true “doesn’t make it true.” Another problem with fideism is
trying to decided whether or not you should believe ones faiths because
choosing a faith can be difficult. There are many different beliefs. When using
fideism is does not allow you to use reasoning because we cannot say that ones
beliefs is correct or incorrect.
This is also a concept that stood out to me. Fideism is somehting i have never heard before but i can relate to it very well. Being a Christian i find it hard to communicate my beliefs with others to make them understand my faith and this kind of explains what i believe. Religion or faith isnt something that you can explain or rationalize. I dont beleive it was meant for people to analyze or break down and try to find truths and answers. I believe faith is something within yourself and what you make out of your religion. Faith should be just your relationship with God and nothing else. Sometimes reasoning doesnt belong with faith. So I guess you can say that i dont really agree with everything about Fideism afterall.
ReplyDeleteAs a catholic, this concept is what makes me believe in my religion. I have never seen god, heaven, or anything which may symbolize an afterlife but I don't need to since I have faith. But I have also been following this religion from a very young age so that may play a role on why I have so much faith with my religion. I agree with you that trying to convince someone of a religion is very difficult since there is no hard evidence on how one religion is better or more valid than another. Faith is an important trait someone must have if they are going to follow a religion, and if it is hard for someone to believe it they may have a hard time finding guidance in life.
