After
reading the section on Perspectives on Reason and Proofs for the Existence of
God I would disagree with Dawkin because he believes that the evolution and the
belief in god is incompatible. I personally do not like discussing religious
beliefs in school because everyone has their own personal views and some people
tend to get offended by what others say. Dawkin claims that God isn’t the cause
or the mover on the way society has been shaped today. I think that if Aquinas were
still alive he would definitely disagree with Dawkin stating that Dawkin has no
proof of what he is saying. I believe that god is the creator but Dawkins would
disagree because he believes that the idea is being forced into people’s heads.
Aquinas can provide evidence such as how the bible was made and is used daily.
As for Dawkins he is just disagreeing with Aquinas and stating that God is just
a made up name.
I see your point in your argument. I think that it was good that before you got into your thoughts, you started clarifying your stance that you value both your opinion and everybody else's in this matter. I agree with your point that if given a chance, Aquinas would completely disagree with Dawkins' point. In addition, I also like how you stress that though we believe in God, Dawkins and people like him make it hard to fully practice our faith without any judgment from others or doubt from in ourselves. It is important to distinguish both of the writers’ viewpoint so that we can better analyze the issue, and you executed that very well.
ReplyDeleteIt definitely does get controversial about religion because everyone has their own beliefs. Specifically talking about Dawkins and Aquinas, I disagree with Dawkins as well. There is a certain point where I do disagree but at the same time Dawkins could have a point. Yes, I do believe in god but what if people in the past just chose a random name and used it instead of God? If Aquinas was alive he would probably use the example of the bible, I also stated that he would use the bible as his evidence. Religion is such a controversial topic because there is so much information that is tossed around and misleading.
