My friends wanted my friend who was pregnant to drink wine
and as soon as I heard them trying to persuade her I jumped in and told them
that drinking is not good for the baby.
They then explained that it is good to drink a glass a wine a day
because it is good for your heart. I explained even when it was good for your
heart it was still harmful for the baby. Therefore, drinking wine everyday
maybe good for the mother but is harmful for the baby she is carrying. Drinking
while pregnant can cause alcohol fetal syndrome. My friends and I could drink
wine in order to have a good heart but the girl who was pregnant did not want
to put her child at risk. Our statements were true on both sides but it is
better for a woman who is pregnant to hold off on the alcohol for her child’s
sake. Inductive arguments can seem
confusing when reading examples but it is just a statement that is true or
false.
That's good that you actually jumped and prevented your friend who was pregnant to not drink wine. Your right, drinking wine when you’re pregnant is not good because the baby can develop alcohol fetal syndrome. I have a friend whose one of his family members was born with alcohol fetal syndrome. It’s very upsetting to see his family member because it's not his fault that he developed that syndrome. The best things do to when pregnant is staying away from any alcohol and drugs. Although if you are not pregnant then it would be okay to drink wine because scientists say that a cup of wine is healthy for the heart.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great example of where inductive arguments and reasoning comes into play. Although the premises of thinking that wine is good for the body and heart may prove to be true, but ultimately the premise of drinking wine or any type of alcohol at that is very dtrimental to any baby's health and well being. Both premises seem to be true but really you gotta look outside of the situation and think what is more important. Im glad you were able to speak up like you did because this is common among mothers. People should know that drinking alcohol while pregnant pose great issues for the baby before it even gets to breathe its first breath. A lot more people should be aware of this and take action against it. This inductive argument may seem quite confusing but if your thinking about preserving the babys health it should be and easy decision.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about inductive reasoning, it is often very confusing when it comes to certain situations (like yours). Nonetheless, I am very glad you stopped your friend from consuming any type of alcohol, because it IS in fact harmful to the baby. This is a very common issue among expecting mothers, although drinking may be quite tempting at times, it is very necessary to understand which is more important. That seems a little crazy to me how your friends would even suggest such thing to your pregnant friend. However, I can understand that because they were not informed about the hazards of expecting mothers to intake alcohol, I am glad you informed them. Like the commenter above, I also agree that people should be more aware of this issue and there should be action taken to prevent this behavior.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you any type of alcohol however much or however little is consumed it can indeed harm the heath of a developing baby. Babies are not able to process the alcohol and instead of the symptoms going away and their brains going back to normal, the alcohol hurts the brain causing the alcohol fetal syndrome. In your situation you were completely right in telling the girl who was trying to get the pregnant girl to drink to not drink. I think that it is a little bit ridiculous for the girl to try to say that it is fine because it would be good for the girl's heart. In my opinion everyone should know that you cannot drink, smoke, or do drugs while pregnant without harming the developing baby.
