Course Improvements

My favorite thing about this class was that it was not an overwhelming course. The blog was pretty easy. My least favorite thing about this course was the the three group assignments. The reason I choose to take an online class was because I do not have time to sit in a class and do group work. I work full time and go to school. I created my schedule to make my life easier. Working with groups in an online class is difficult because we had never seen one another and theres always that one person who has an excuse I would rather do my own work rather than worry about if the others are going to do their parts. The class can be improved by not having the blogs due 12 hours apart that can be very time consuming. I also think that you should only have one group assignment because it was hard getting together with our schedules.

  1. I completely agree with everything that you pointed out. You brought up topics that I did not realize affected me in a more negative aspect. I liked how the course was a light load, but at the same time the students still learned and took a lot from this class. However, doing the group projects was really difficult. Those students who had time on their hands were on top of it, while others put the assignment at the bottom of their to-do list. This affected the entire group. Maybe having smaller groups would work better. I also agree that having to post a blog 12 hours apart is also time consuming. It all has to be done anyway, so why have it hours apart.

  2. I completely agree with your summation of the class. The group work was very annoying and I would much rather prefer doing my own papers, even if they are longer in length. With everyone having very different schedules, it made it nearly impossible to find a time the met everyone’s availability. You also made me realize that the course was relatively light in work, which was a plus. I would recommend this class to my friends but I would definitely warn them about the group work. Overall, this class has been very informative and straightforward, which is always a plus when it comes to students managing multiple courses.

  3. Hi! I could NOT agree with you more about the group assignments! I work full time and am taking 6 classes and this is my last semester before graduation. This course is for my minor and while it is definitely important, there are other courses that take up a ton of time and have set class periods where we could work on group projects when needed. I was not aware there would be so many group assignments and I think it would be better if 2 were individual and the group facilitation was a group, or even all of them individual. Other than that this class was interesting and easy going =)

  4. I totally agree with you. I hate it when a specific class is so overwhelming. I enjoyed that this class was effective, but it was too much for us. I think it was a really enjoyable class. I think that it was a great class. I totally agree with you that the group projects was by far the least thing in this class. I do not like it that all of our projects were group project. I think that in every group project there are always people that dont do any work, and other people that do all of the work. I hated that we had to do all of the group projects. It was even worse that we were not allowed to even pick our own groups so we had to work with people that we had no idea what they would do.

  5. I’ve heard some strong complaints against the group projects from quite a few people, though maybe I’m just reading the good students blogs who do the work. Just kidding. I took this class because it works with my work schedule much better than on campus classes, so I completely agree with your complaint about trying to get people together. I think that group projects are something that works much better with an on campus class because the students already have a set time to meet with each other. I get the point that some of the class material was about working in groups, so I can see why there were group projects, but maybe that should’ve been included on the course decision so we know before signing up.
