This Semester

Throughout this semester I have learned a lot in this course. I learned about the different fallacies and how to have a strong argument. I learned about direct experience and false memories, which I found really useful.  Our mind alters our memories, which gives us inaccurate memories. They way questions are ask can determine whether someone is altering their memory or not. The wording plays a major part in that. I also learned the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Wisdom comes from experience and knowledge comes from learning and reasoning. Wisdom is life experiences and knowledge is gained from reading. The rhetorical devices, was another concept I learned more about. The rhetorical devices are euphemism, dysphemism, hyperbole, and sarcasm. I use sarcasm often because I am a very sarcastic person. At times that’s good and bad. A euphemism is used to replace a negative term that is associated with a positive term. Dysphemism is a phrase that is used to produce a negative effect. A hyperbole is used to overstate the facts and distort them. Sarcasm is used by those who trying to insult or taunt someone. Over all I have learned a lot in this class.

  1. I agree with you, all of the things that you have discussed are definitely things that I feel that I learned a lot more about. When I had started the class and I looked through the book I really thought that I had known most of the information, however, when I began going through with the class I soon figured out that I did not know as much as I had thought. The class taught me a lot more about all of the things; one in particular was the rhetoric devices. I used to think that the only rhetoric devices are hyperbole and sarcasm but through the class I learned about euphemism and dysphemism

  2. During this semester I have learned a lot more than i thought too. Rhetoric devices, like euphemism and dysphemism, were two devices that I had no idea about until I took this class. When I learned about wisdom and knowledge, I never really understood the difference of the two but I now realize how one is from experience and the other is from learning. I would have to agree that I learned a lot from this class. It made me become a person, who looks at a problem a lot more closely, rather than skipping through it and missing some evidence. It also helped me to understand the different ways to persuade my audience. This class was very beneficial.

  3. I also believe the chapter of false memories was very important. I found this concept to be very informing and interesting because I can relate to it. There are often times where I question about a specific event from the past to be real because it happened such a long time ago. Overall, this semester I have learned numerous concepts of critical thinking in our daily lives. Each concept that we have gone over this semester can be applied to our daily lives, and which of those I have never really noticed before. All of these topics were not only very informative but very useful.
