Both Sadler and Hunt have valid points in their arguments.
Sadler believes that you are cheating yourself when using the Internet because
most students tend to plagiarize. She also argues that plagiarism is wrong
especially when using the Internet. When Sadler discusses plagiarism she talks
about how it is unfair to use papers from the Internet because teachers raise
the grading scale and those students who do not plagiarize their papers
struggle because their papers seem weak next to the plagiarized ones. Sadler
states that plagiarism makes it unfair for the students and also the teachers.
The teachers take their time trying to teach the material while the students
who plagiarize are taking the easy way out. Hunt believes that students decide
to plagiarize because of the grading scale to satisfy requirements. Sadler thinks that plagiarism is wrong and doesn’t
approve of it. Hunt doesn’t agree with Sadler because he believes that students
plagiarize because of all the pressure put on them. I personally would agree
with Hunt because most students do not plagiarize purposely but because they
are overwhelmed and are determined to get a good grade. Plagiarize is not that
big of a deal especially when writing certain papers.
I agree with you that Hunt's argument is better. School now a days is so competitive. It is getting more difficult to get into universities, and getting high paying jobs. Everyone is always looking for that something extra to make them stick out. This is why I think that there is so much plagiarism today. There is often that pressure to success. If an individual does not do good in class then it is seen that they will not succeed in life. With this pressure going through school students often use plagiarism to get better scores. Pressure is what drives students into internet plagiarism.
ReplyDeleteI also agree that Hunt’s argument is better. I believe that when a student plagiarizes they are not doing it on purpose but instead to do well on a paper. I think this because I do not believe that students would plagiarize on propose because obviously they would get in trouble and I think that the punishment for the act of plagiarizing is much worse than getting I bad grade on a paper. Overall Hunt makes a better argument that seems like it is much more applicable to students today. However I do disagree in your last statement, I do think plagiarism is kind of a big deal because there is so much instruction on how not to plagiarize and I just think that people need to pay attention more and not rely so much on outside sources and so little on their own opinions.
