Marketing strategies

This week I have been surrounded by several different marketing strategies. I work in retail therefore I have to use some of the strategies. As a consumer every time I walked in a store someone approached me asking me if I needed help and explaining his or her promotions to me. One that work was when I walked into Armani exchange they explained that their sales items were and additional 40 percent off. Telling their customers about the markdown promotion is a smart idea because the consumer would want to buy more things from the sale section. It also will give them the opportunity to look at their new season collection. When the sales associates approach you they attempt to persuade you into buying things that are similar to the things you have on and pick up in the store. I also have seen a few advertisements online but I do not feel that they are as effective as walking into a store because when I am online I am usually focused on a particular thing.

  1. I know exactly what you’re talking about, walking into a store and hearing about the promotions really gets me! Every time I walk into a store just to browse and they tell me about the sale items, I feel determined to find something at the “unbeatable” prices. Also, with the internet ads, I find them very annoying and just a distraction. I always just x out of the ones that pop up and never pay any attention to them. However, just like the book said, being aware of marketing strategies and their effects on our behavior, we can better resist impulse shopping.

  2. I do the same things in stores, if there is a sale price and, especially if someone tells me about it when I come in, I am more inclined to buy things. But the funny thing is that I do work in retail and I am aware that sales can be deceiving because like at my job there are some sales that are continuous, meaning that the advertised sale price is the normal price and there is just always a sale sign on the product saying that it has a higher regular price. I know that there are these types of marketing strategies and yet I am still sucked into the sales.

  3. I always get sucked into in-store promotions, especially when I am with my friends. They enable me to buy clothes and stuff I do not really need. Yet, I cannot really blame them because when stores offer discounts, I go all out. Everything I have been eyeing to buy seems even more attractive, and I end up buying it. Most of the time I try to restrain myself from caving, but it is difficult. Saving money is important to me as I’m attending college because college is expensive. Every dollar I save is another dollar I can put towards something else. In-store promotions are great marketing strategies because it makes you feel as if this discount will only apply today and you won’t ever be able to get another opportunity like this.
