I believe that most people think that knowledge and wisdom are the same
things, but they are definitely two different things. The definition for wisdom
is “the trait of utilizing knowledge and experience with common sense and
insight.” While the definition for knowledge is a tad bit different. Knowledge
is “the psychological result of perception and learning and reasoning.” (Dictionary
Catlin software, LLC). I believe in college we are acquiring both knowledge and
wisdom because we gain knowledge in class through our readings and our
lectures. Wisdom is considered to be life experiences and events you go through
which cannot be found online or in books. I am gaining wisdom through my life
experiences in college and knowledge through researching, and textbooks. Wisdom
plays a major role in our lives because without wisdom we would not learn from
our mistakes. With knowledge we need this because we cannot expand our minds
and we will not be very intelligent.
I agree with you that knowledge and wisdom is different. There are a lot of people that think these are the same, but they are two totally different things. However, in college I think that we are only getting knowledge. When we go to classes in college they are just teaching us information. Wisdom is obtain when just living life, but there are not classes in college that teaches us any wisdom i think. A lot of the things we learn in college is information based. A lot of the older people I talk to tell me that they never use any of the things they learned in college making me think more that we only get knowledge from college.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, knowledge and wisdom are two different things and knowledge is knowing factual information and on the other hand wisdom is knowing how to use that information in real life situations. I would also agree that in college we learn a lot of knowledge and wisdom. In our classes we learn knowledge of many different concepts. And in the experiences that we all go through we gain wisdom. Also when we do things in this information age on the computer and that just reinforces the fact that we keep learning more and more and gaining more knowledge and wisdom.
ReplyDeleteI agree, people often assume that wisdom and knowledge are the same thing but they are in fact very different. Wisdom is how you utilize your past experiences or information. Knowledge is just factual information that you learn. I also agree that knowledge is essential in order to expand our minds. Having knowledge will help one to be more wise. Although we are acquiring both knowledge and wisdom in college, I believe we are acquiring knowledge. In school, we are taught factual information about a specific subject, how we utilize the material is entirely up to us. Therefore, I don’t necessarily think that college acquires wisdom.
